6 Proven Tips on How To Get Into The “Writing Mood” Instantly

Many writers have a hard time getting into their writing mood.

Several hours pass by trying to get into the writing mood, and they end up struggling to finish their work in time because they didn’t start soon enough.

This can be called “writer’s block” or some other fancy term, but I’m convinced that it’s merely procrastination that keeps the writer from doing what they do best.

Although facing this challenge once or twice is completely normal, suffering from it for an extended period of time is utterly destructive.

To help our brothers battle this demon, here are the best tips guaranteed to get you in the writing mood.

Get Your Writing Mood On!

  1. Be an Actual Writer

This might sound redundant, but simply writing for a job or blog does not make you a writer.

You have to act like one and most importantly, call yourself one.

Say these words out loud: “I am a writer” with gusto and conviction!

Don’t underestimate the power that accompanies these words – or the power of words, period.

Hearing yourself say these words aloud will make you more confident in yourself.

In fact, never miss an opportunity to bring it up. Say it when introducing yourself and when talking to friends, family, or even to yourself in the mirror.

It might sound embarrassing but they won’t laugh at you. Instead, one of them might even land you a job!

The more you say it, the more you’ll believe it and boost your confidence, so keep at it till it comes to you naturally.

  1. Kick-Off With Your Passion

An easy way to get yourself into that delightful writing zone where words flow smoothly and freely is to write about something that you enjoy.

It can be a random blog post or simply an empty Word document, a platform for your digital scribbles, if you’re passionate about something, write about that.

Writing something you enjoy will get you started without forcing yourself and will also get your creative juices to go where they need to be.

You could even do something sneaky, such as leaving your assignments running in the background so as soon as you are done with your little joyride, your actual work is right there in front of you!

  1. Dress for the Job

A huge advantage perk of being a freelance writer is that you can work from home in your pyjamas!

While that sounds cosy and comfy, pyjamas really aren’t the most optimal attire for the job.

If you’re a bit too comfortable, you might just work a bit too slow and not at your best.

In other words, complacency is a killer.

Put on some jeans and a proper t-shirt and shoes. Something you would normally wear when going out to meet friends.

Looking sharp will also keep your mind sharp.

  1. Have Your Own Spot

Make your own spot in your house that you dedicate solely to your work.

A secluded place away from all the distractions of loud TVs and crying children and whining spouses!

To top it all off, call it your office, or your study or something similarly important, the idea is to settle on a dedicated space for your writing tasks.

You can convert any spare rooms you have or even your garage to make it a place where you can keep all your writing material, such as your computer, printer, books, etc.

Most importantly, it is a holy space built just for you and your job – so make sure it is maintained as such!

  1. Create Specific Timing For Work

Although keep to schedule and certain working hours may sound like a 9-to-5 corporate office job, it is not.

Here, you’re the master of your own hours and can set your work time from anywhere starting from the morning to evenings or even from the evenings to late nights.

It is usually a better practice to work with chunks of hours instead of doing everything in one go.

For instance, have a work session in the morning after breakfast and then another at the evening once you’re done with your household chore.

  1. Get A Change of Scenery

The final tip is about mixing things up from time to time.

It might get boring to work from the same place all the time so why not go out?

Head to your local library or a nearby coffee shop; see the people around, get some inspiration.

Take the time to stop and simply be and you’ll see that you’re having a much better time writing and enjoying yourself while at it.

Don’t let your life as a writer get static lest it puts a stopper on your flow of ideas.

Keep it exciting and new the way it should be!
